The Exam Format
Brighton uses their own entrance papers at 13+ — English, Maths and an additional subject. Papers are set at a similar standard to Common Entrance but Brighton mark them internally, which matters.
What They Look For
Brighton are genuinely interested in the whole child. They look for curiosity, ambition and personality just as much as grades. The interview is conversational — they want to see how a student thinks.
Ash's Preparation Strategy
Year 7 Build strong Maths and English foundations. Don't rush into past papers — focus on understanding. Creative writing output should increase significantly this year.
Year 8 Switch to timed practice from October. Begin mock interviews from January. The scholarship track requires separate preparation — covered fully in this guide.
